Pierce Celebrates 30 Years of Building Custom Chassis with Display at FDIC
APPLETON, Wis. (April 19, 2012) – Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today presented its industry-leading lineup of custom fire and emergency vehicles at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Ind. Pierce marked its 30th year of building custom chassis with a display of nine Pierce apparatus in Lucas Oil Stadium, including three Pierce® Dash® CF models and a total of six unique custom chassis.
“During Pierce’s 99 year history, we’ve built over 51,000 fire trucks and we have 30 years of custom chassis experience,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “That accumulated knowledge enhances every truck we build. Meeting the needs of firefighters is Pierce’s number one priority, and this is the guiding principal in all that we do – from product innovation to customer service.”
Front and center in the display are three of Pierce’s state-of-the-art Dash CF vehicles. A quint configuration, with a 75-ft heavy-duty PUC ladder and single rear axle, built on an Impel™ chassis, is on display courtesy of the Watauga Fire Department of Watauga, Tex. A non-walk-in, heavy-duty PUC rescue vehicle, built on the Arrow XT™ chassis, is on display courtesy of the Manalapan Fire District #1 of Manalapan, NJ.

APPLETON, Wis. (December 9, 2011) - Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK] company, and Harley-Davidson Motor Company [NYSE: HOG] today awarded Fire Chief Kevin Barnes of the Rescue Hose Company No. 1 in Greencastle, Penn., a Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® motorcycle as the winner in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Full Throttle Support 3 sweepstakes. The motorcycle is on display at the International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach, Calif. The NFFF Full Throttle Support campaign recently completed its third consecutive year and has, in that time, generated donations of $275,000 to assist the NFFF.
Chief Barnes has been a member of Rescue Hose Company No. 1 since 1979, and was named its chief in 2006. “We are blessed to be able to regularly support the important cause and work of the NFFF,” said Chief Barnes. “In the fire service, we care for our own. And the NFFF honors those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and sustains their families and loved ones with important support programs. The commitment of Pierce and Harley-Davidson speaks volumes about the importance both companies place on helping the families of these fallen heroes.”
“I’ve been riding for about 40 years,” continued Barnes, “and the fire service and motorcycles are two of my passions. Living close to the NFFF headquarters, I hope to display the bike at events and use it in whatever way I can to help generate awareness and funds for the Foundation. I’m very excited to take this awesome bike on the open road!”
Pierce senior vice president of sales Dan Peters added, “Pierce and its dealer family is proud to support the NFFF Full Throttle initiative. It is now the longest running and most successful charitable fundraising program we’ve ever been associated with. Since its inception, NFFF Full Throttle Support has generated $275,000 for this truly worthwhile endeavor. The money donated supports the noble mission of NFFF to honor the memory of firefighters who have lost their lives by assisting their families.”
Since its inception, NFFF Full Throttle Support has generated close to 20,000 individual donations to the NFFF. The NFFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the memory of America’s fallen firefighters as it allocates resources to aid their surviving spouses and children with scholarship assistance for educational and job training costs, and for peer networks that offer families and coworkers essential emotional support.
“On behalf of Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and our dealers and riders, we’re honored, for the third consecutive year, to play a role with Pierce to champion the NFFF Full Throttle Support campaign. Harley-Davidson is proud and delighted to be a sponsor of this important cause,” said Steve St. Thomas, Harley-Davidson Motor Company director, Police and Fleet Sales.
Cathy Hedrick, NFFF corporate relations specialist, said, "The NFFF is appreciative of the support given to us by both Pierce and Harley-Davidson. Without their commitment to the families of the fallen, our programs and services would not be as effective as they have been. NFFF Full Throttle Support has been one of our premiere corporate fundraising efforts, and we’re very happy that a fire chief and motorcycle enthusiast such as Chief Barnes has won this amazing bike."

Pierce Demos New PUC Wildland-Urban Interface Apparatus
Vehicle built to address growing need for wildland and urban interface emergency response.
APPLETON,
Wis. (June 16, 2011) – Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation
(NYSE:OSK) company, is showcasing the capabilities of a new Type 1
wildland-urban interface firefighting vehicle that incorporates the
patented Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) technology. The new
apparatus offers enhanced emergency response performance for wildland
and urban interface firefighting in regions of the country such as the
West Coast, for example, where areas of housing are adjacent to
undeveloped wildland vegetation.
|
A demonstration vehicle, built on
the Pierce® Arrow XT™ custom chassis, is in the Pacific Northwest with
Pierce dealer Hughes Fire Equipment through June. The vehicle will be on
hand at a ride-and-drive event in Eugene, Ore. on June 17.
“Many
regions of the country are experiencing increasing risk of fires and
other emergencies in the wildland-urban interface, and the new PUC Type 1
engine is built to address a wide range of responses in this
environment,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice
president and president, Fire & Emergency. “With its shorter
wheelbase, excellent pump-and-roll capability and increased storage
space as compared to a traditional Type 1 engine, the PUC wildland-urban
interface vehicle offers the flexibility to address wildfires and
natural disasters, as well as traditional structural fires.”
The PUC
is an industry changing multi-purpose response vehicle that is
engineered to eliminate the need for a bulky pumphouse. It features a
simplified two-step pump shift operation and a redesigned pump panel for
easier use. The standard pump-and-roll capability allows the vehicle to
simultaneously move position while effectively fighting a fire.
The
apparatus features a wheelbase as short as 162-inches as well as high
chassis angle of approach and departure for improved maneuverability,
and all-wheel drive is available for unmatched off road performance. In
addition, the PUC technology frees space while improving function.
Because of its space saving design, the PUC wildland-urban interface
vehicle offers 200 cubic feet of storage space for rescue and EMS
equipment.
The PUC wildland-urban interface vehicle is available on all Pierce custom chassis.

Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) Granted United States Patent #7,784,554 as it Surpasses 500 Vehicles Sold
Unique fire pump system located underneath cab offers firefighters many benefits.
APPLETON, Wis. (January 6, 2011) – Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today announced that it has been granted United States Patent #7,784,554 for the Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC™) firefighting vehicle. This is in addition to multiple patents previously issued, which cover this vehicle and its options. With more than 500 vehicles sold, the PUC is among the most popular products in Pierce Manufacturing history.
“This US patent reinforces the PUC as a breakthrough firefighting vehicle innovation unlike anything else in the industry,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “Our product development team spent thousands of hours developing the PUC, with input and feedback from firefighters coast-to-coast.”
The PUC is an industry-changing multi-purpose response vehicle that is engineered to eliminate the need for a bulky pumphouse. The PUC features a simplified two-step pump shift operation and redesigned pump panel for ease of use. In addition, the design frees space while improving function. With a wheelbase as short as 172-inches for improved maneuverability, the PUC also provides up to 500 cubic-feet of storage. Among the many other benefits delivered by the PUC are the following:
• Two-step/single touch ease. A simple two-step pump operation and “single touch” water-foam-CAFS selection means the firefighting system is up and functional before the operator exits the cab.
• Tilt and access efficiency. Reduced downtime and maintenance costs by tilting the cab and removing the crosslay trays. The PUC provides easy and full access to all plumbing and pump components. Maintenance people spend less time getting to the plumbing and parts.
• Safety. With the pump operator positioned alongside the hose connections instead of over them – and with crosslays and hosebeds at chest height – the PUC boasts an impressive list of safety features.
The PUC is available on all Pierce custom chassis in side and top mount configurations, as well as on all aerial ladders.

Atlantic Emergency Solutions Awarded Apparatus Contract from Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service
December 14, 2010 - Manassas, Virginia:
|

|
Atlantic Emergency Solutions officially announces the award of an apparatus contract from Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services of Portsmouth, Virginia. The contract for four (4) Pierce PUC Pumpers and one (1) Pierce PUC 100’ Rear Mount Steel Aerial Platform all on custom Arrow XT chassis was finalized on November 16, 2010. The contract utilized HGACBuy, a nationwide, government procurement vehicle.
“Atlantic Emergency Solutions is proud to partner with Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services as they strive to bring the latest in innovation to their fleet of apparatus. We embrace the opportunity to provide the City of Portsmouth with solutions that focus on safety, performance and reliability to meet the needs of their community,” said Joe Pack, President & CEO.
|
All five units feature TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension, Side Roll Protection, Frontal Impact Protection, PUC pumps and the new environmentally friendly 2010 Detroit DD-13 engine which is exclusive to Pierce Manufacturing. The DD-13 engine utilizes SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Technology that has been used in Europe since 2006 and has had over 10 million miles of validation testing in North America. SCR Technology not only meets and exceeds the new EPA emissions standards, but it has also proven to be an economical solution. There has never been an emissions solution that improves fuel economy until now. Testing shows that SCR Technology provides 3% better fuel economy over a comparable EPA07 engine and at least 5% better fuel economy than a comparable EPA 2010 “EGR only” engine.
“Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services is looking forward to the addition of these five units to our fleet,??? said Fire Chief Don J. Horton. “The new technologies introduced by Pierce in the Arrow XT units will make these units safer and more economical to operate while reducing adverse environmental impacts on our beautiful city and improving service delivery to our citizens.”
